About polar bears

Most people visiting Svalbard dream of having a glimpse of the King of the Arctic. The polar bear is a protected species, and it is illegal to disturb them and any other wildlife in Svalbard. The polar bears view humans with curiosity. Please keep in mind that they are very unpredictable and dangerous animals, which may attack you.
Where can I go without worrying about the polar bear danger?
The safe area is defined as the built-up town area, outside of this, and on the surrounding mountains, weapons should be carried at all times. Please see the map below:
