KSAT Selected as Provider to NASA Near Space Network (NSN) – Including Lunar Services

Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has been selected by NASA to provide critical space-to-ground communication services in the Near Space Network (NSN) – including direct-to-Earth Lunar services.

Tromsø, Norway: KSAT, a global leader in ground station services and satellite communications, is pleased to announce to have been selected by NASA to continued support for the Near Space Network (NSN). This contract underscores KSAT's ongoing commitment to provide reliable space communications and deepens our collaboration with NASA through supporting critical space missions.

The Near Space Network plays a crucial role in NASA’s space communications infrastructure, providing reliable and secure data transmission for spacecraft operating in near-Earth orbits, including missions to the Moon. Through this agreement, KSAT will continue to provide essential satellite communication services, including telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) capabilities, to support NASA’s diverse and expanding fleet of space missions, from satellite constellations to human space exploration.

KSAT's participation in the NSN continues its history as a provider of world-class satellite services for a broad range of missions, including Earth observation, deep space exploration, and the emerging lunar space economy.

I’m very pleased that NASA selected KSAT as their partner and provider of ground communication services, continuing a legacy of 25 years of trust in serving science missions in low Earth orbit, said KSAT President and CEO, Rolf Skatteboe.

The NSN will leverage KSAT’s investment where KSAT is building the world’s first dedicated commercial lunar communication network. KSAT Lunar services offer continuous coverage to the lunar surface, vital for the high-bandwidth, secure and resilient communication links critical for supporting NASA’s Artemis program.

NASA’s Near Space Network opens a new opportunity for commercial suppliers in lunar exploration. KSAT has invested in the first commercial lunar network, and this will serve as a cornerstone for future support to NASA, said Mr. Skatteboe.
