MNOK 180 contract with the Finnish Armed Forces

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a contract for deliveries to the Finnish Armed Forces of hydrographic equipment and systems integration valued at approx. MNOK 180. KONGSBERG's product will be used to detect and destroy sea mines, among other things, and will be installed and integrated on board on the Finnish Navy's three new mine clearing vessels.

"This is an important reference contract for KONGSBERG with a view to equipment for detecting sea mines. The contract covers equipment from both Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Kongsberg Maritime, and is a prime example of how products developed for the civilian market at Kongsberg Maritime have a potential in the defence market", remarks Executive Vice President Nils-Oddvar Hagen of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

The equipment to be delivered to Finland includes:

  • Hugin , an autonomous underwater vehicle, which carries an advanced side scanning sonar.
  • EM710 , a sophisticated echosounder for seabed surveys.
  • TOPAS , an echosounders with jets that penetrate the uppermost strata of the seabed.
  • HiPAP , a positioning system for use under water.
