Kongsberg Spacetec wins contract in China

Kongsberg Spacetec AS has won a contract to deliver a ground station system to the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing, China. - The contract is valued at MNOK 3, but Kongsberg Spacetec is working towards an agreement where we will deliver another five systems to China, says President Bjørn Arne Kanck, who is of the opinion that the contract is an international breakthrough for the company's Envisat ASAR.

This is the most important instrument on board the Envisat satellite, which the European Space Agency (ESA) has launched. ASAR is a radar, which can operate in any weather and lighting conditions, and which can take pictures with high resolution and degree of detail. The Chinese customer wishes to use the system for vessel traffic management and surveillance of pollution in the Taiwanese straits, as well as of flooding in the large rivers.
