Opportunities for appointment after graduation

For many students a summer job is a good opportunity to prove oneself to a potential employer. At the same time, they get to try if this is something they would like work with after they have completed their degrees.

"Those who excel stand a good chance of being offered a job when they have graduated. It is also a good opportunity for us to get to know the students and the fresh knowledge they bring with them from their studies. The tasks and challenges they work on are real cases, and they apply the latest methods and techniques. The students work on projects that are part of the development process for new products and solutions", says Håøy.

More female applicants

There is also an increase in the number of female summer job applicants. 344 girls applied for a summer job this year compared to 294 in 2015, an increase of 17 per cent. Of these, 54 have received a summer job offer, which is an increase of 31 per cent.

"We are very pleased that more girls are applying for a summer job with us. It is important for us to motivate more girls to study engineering. Our summer job program is one way of contributing to this and showing them what possibilities exist if they put an effort into their studies and complete their degrees", says Håøy.

Popular projects

KONGSEBRG offers two kinds of summer jobs; working on a concrete project or in a technology department. The projects are popular, and "Local Hawk" in Kongsberg Defence Systems is the one most have applied for.

"466 people have applied for a job in Local Hawk. With only 24 jobs on offer, competition is stiff. Another popular project, with 402 applications for 4 jobs, is the new "Subsea Explorer" project belonging to our subsea division in Horten. I am really looking forward to seeing the results of this year's projects on August 9th when they present their achievements from the summer", concludes Håøy.
