Kongsberg wins BP contract

Kongsberg Simrad in Houston has been awarded a contract for providing an integrated control and monitoring system including Position Mooring and Marine Automation to BP Exploration & Production Inc. for the Crazy Horse PDQ semisub. The contract including various options like Riser Management system and Hydro-acoustic Positioning systems has a potential value of up to 50 MNOK.

Kongsberg Simrad will deliver a Position Mooring System that will monitor mooring line forces and through simulation find optimum mooring conditions. Kongsberg Simrad will also deliver an integrated vessel management system of up to 7500 control and monitoring points for power management, ballast and other marine system functions. Kongsberg Simrad will participate in the engineering teams in Houston and at the yard in Korea.

BP`s Crazy Horse PDQ (Production, Drilling and Quarters) is a drilling and production semi-submersible to be moored at approx. 1900 meters (5700 feet) in the Crazy Horse field in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

"For Kongsberg Simrad this is a very prestigious contract. It takes us from Deepwater Drilling to Deepwater Production. The majority of the world`s deepwater drilling fleet is equipped with Kongsberg Simrad control systems. We are proud that we have been selected to supply such vital systems to the Crazy Horse production and drilling semisub. We have doubled our staff in Houston (50 persons) in one year and believe that this contract shows that the build-up of support for GOM in Houston has helped us winning this", says Executive Vice President Tor Erik Sørensen.
